jiggitysmith's News

Posted by jiggitysmith - August 2nd, 2008

Hello everyone and my three fans.

I'm pleased to announce that I have a new project under way that's going to be pretty awesome from the looks of it. I don't want to give away too much about it, though, because I want it to be a surprise (and hopefully have it gather more attention because of that).

What I will say about it:

-It features 100% original artwork by yours truly.

-It has its own theme song that's pretty much guaranteed to get stuck in your head.

-Depending on how much I get to work on it, it might come out soon (like a month maybe but I dunno yet. I like to take my time and do things right instead of half assing just to get it done).

-It may possibly become its own series. My plans as of late are to start a bunch of new series (and continually start new series) and then pick and choose which ones I want to keep doing (so I don't get bored or stale with just one show).

Speaking of new series, I even have an idea what to do for the one after this current project. So let's just say I'm gonna be churning out more and more quality material as time goes by.

Oh by the way, I got me the cheapest Waacom tablet they sell and it's pretty darn sweet except for the size. All the artwork for this animation is and is going to be drawn using it.

UPDATE: One month later and I'm more than half done (the hard half) and would expect to see it out before the end of September.

New project underway

You all haven't heard from me for a long ass while and while pretty much everyone has probably forgotten about the lolcat buzz that happened a couple months ago, I assure you I am not dead.

Updates:

- I got a warehouse job at a pool company that requires of me a lot of overtime (as it's currently the busiest part of the season for them). Bear in mind when I said I'd continue to work on projects, I wasn't expecting to have zero free time due to work.

-I somehow managed to pick up a girlfriend that uses any spare time that I have when I'm not on overtime.

The good news:

-My boss is actually really cool and when the slow season starts (around late August), it will get slow enough that I'll be able to actually animate while on the clock (also there are a lot of cool people at work to use for voices as well).

-Due to all this overtime, I'm quickly getting rid of all that debt from legal fees so I won't have that shit hanging over my head anymore

-My girlfriend is a nympho much like myself

So basically, you will see all these 'future projects' I toted about back when I was unemployed come to fruition in a few months (maybe I'll even start off with an official episode of the lolcats to brush off the rust from not being creative for a few months).

Bigass update

Good news everyone!

I plan to release a Lolcat short tomorrow so keep an eye out for it. I'm starting work on it today so I hope it turns out okay.

Also, I might release the outtakes this coming Friday (which means the DVD has no real new content except the menus and the fact I spent almost a half week working 20 hours a day on it so it worked/looked fine on DVD players). Basically it's a win situation if you want to burn it to a DVD and watch it as one big animation as it was intended instead of split into 6 parts. But I figure for the people who don't have the money or bandwidth to get the DVD, this is only fair (it's been about 3-4 weeks since the last release).

For those of you looking for the download links for the DVD, please check out the previous post.

New Release

As you know, I'm officially involved in the Kubrick Collab and I'm doing the 40-45 second segment on 'A Clockwork Orange.'

I originally said that I was going to use my own original artwork, but I suck at drawing (especially when trying to imitate) so I'm going to find some fancy Photoshop plugins and tweak up images from the movie and then animate them in the fashion you saw with the Lolcats. I can draw, but for what I want to do with this animation, I have to cop out and do a bunch of photo editing instead.

I would have loved to use my own artwork (and will in other animations), but I don't want my segment in the collab to be a steaming pile of shit.

For those of you who still need the links to download the Lolcat DVD, here they are:

Since teaching my friends how to use Flash is probably going to take some time, I decided to do a small project in the mean time that you guys won't be seeing for at least a couple months.

I'm officially involved in the Kubrick Collab (I got a good feeling about this one) and I'm doing the 40-45 second segment on 'A Clockwork Orange.' I'm looking forward to this because this'll give me a chance to mature my animating skills even further. And no. I will not be cutting out the characters from the movie and animating them like I did the cats. I'm actually going to be using my own artwork.

For those of you who still need the links to download the Lolcat DVD, here they are again:

(Oh and by the way, I intend to release another bonus feature this coming Friday)

EDIT: For those of you who may be interested, while I'm going to be a little inactive with the flash for a couple weeks (and on top of that I got the flu so I don't feel like doing anything anyway), I will be randomly releasing some of my music. If you haven't checked it out, I recommend it as they're pretty good listening. Also, if my sentences don't make sense grammatically and whatever, it's because of this flu. I can't think straight at all (it took me like 3 hours just to make that update on my web page and it should have taken maybe like 20 minutes).

Go to http://www.jiggitysmith.com to send a donation and receive a hard copy in the mail (or to get the links for the free downloadable version).

The RAR archives are about 95 megs each and there are 7 of them (for a total of around 660 megs).
These uncompress to about a 2 gig DVD .iso file.

You can skip a few steps here if my web site is down (my hosting blows), you don't want to donate,
or you just want to see it right away:

Mediafire hosting:
Rar Part 1/7
Rar Part 2/7
Rar Part 3/7
Rar Part 4/7
Rar Part 5/7
Rar Part 6/7
Rar Part 7/7

Alternate Upload66 hosting:
Rar Part 1/7
Rar Part 2/7
Rar Part 3/7
Rar Part 4/7
Rar Part 5/7
Rar Part 6/7
Rar Part 7/7

Hope you enjoy it and please leave a post what you thought about it!

EDIT: BIG LOL at the fact that the 2 gig DVD .iso file compressed in winRar to about 660 megs (So yeah, it'll be up by tomorrow although it does take a little while to uncompress).

Well out of the past 35 hours, I worked 29 of them and slept like shit for the other 6. But most of the problems:

(like ghost lines that looked like bad reception, the audio mysteriously disappearing after reconverting everything to get rid of those lines, finding out I cut out a minute and 10 seconds of just me saying umm and ahh out of the commentary and still not catching all of them, and finding that I still had to make changes to the animation so it would play accurately on a regular TV and not just a widescreen, etc.... )
--have been resolved.

So far the only problem I can tell with it is that television sets do not like the audio very much in some places (It may sound distorted like it's cranked up at times and I think that, due to the up-converting to 48khz, it overprocessed the sounds or something).

It does sound a lot better if I play the DVD with nice head phones or nice speakers, but it's a problem I'm unable to fix due to the original quality of the samples.

I'm hoping to get a few copies uploaded and hosted by tomorrow (or Friday) and I will be releasing the music video when the DVD is available for download.

For the people who want to donate and get a hard copy (thanks by the way), can I accept paypal donations without it being verified? I'm currently in the process of verifying it and it's going to take a few days. Oh btw, I do intend to burn each dvd at 4x on a DVD+R to help ensure compatibility, but I can't guarantee anything - it depends on your DVD player.

Also, I don't plan on signing them because I don't know if marker will react with the lightscribe material (but I won't be releasing the DVD art).

Anywho, yes that is a cookie and I'm not accepting donations yet because I'm still spot checking the DVD for any possible problems.

Phewwww....

UPDATE 03/05/08:

I've gotten the DVD pretty much done at this point, however, it will take me some time to find some file hosting sites that will host large files (like around 1-2 gigs) and give unlimited bandwidth (if anyone knows any good ones I'm all ears). Also, my upspeed is, at best, 70k/sec so it will take me a few days to upload it to a few different sites for hosting (just in case one goes down). It will probably be in a RAR archive (that will unrar into an .iso for your DVD burning convenience).

UPDATE (AGAIN): A friend of mine might help me out temporarily with my bandwidth issues, but we'll see how that goes.

The release date has *possibly* been moved to Friday because of this and I've seriously been working for almost 24 hours (18 to be exact) on this DVD just to get to the point I'm at now (I'm way too tired to be able to sit through and spot check for bugs/errors but the good news is I believe I've caught them all).

Just because you all are such a great audience, here's the unskippable FBI warning that's going to be on the DVD:

It is finished.

For my ViewEra V202D-B 20.1" monitor. Yeah it's a cheap brand, but it was a great monitor till it sort of just fizzled out today (after a few years of strong usage).

It's fortunate I was running a dual monitor setup with a 17" monitor (I was able to use Flash in all its glory in the 20.1" widescreen monitor and surf the net on the 17")

Now that I just have the 17" one I feel like I have tunnel vision...it sucks (especially since I can't afford another bigass monitor at the moment).

Fortunately all the video and animation crap is done at this point for the DVD and I'm mostly working on subtitles, commentary, menus so it's not a huge setback...

AND part 5 comes out today (it's past midnight for me so it's technically Friday)!!

But I'm still a very sad panda:

Can I get a moment of silence...?

Update 4 (Thur):

Lots of trolls out today. Must have been 'stay home sick so I don't get my ass beat' day for them.

Update 3:
Finally got the DVD pretty much synced at this point (after working from 7am-almost midnight today).

Running time: 23 min 15s (parts 1-6)
Bonus features running time: 7m 45s
So a total running time of:

31min or basically a fucking half hour of animation.

Update 2: Converting Flash to DVD and having everything remain synced to the audio is a total bitch. First I had to split each episode into 2 parts (so I could export them uncompressed due to size issues) and then fix the syncing on the second halves, THEN I find out that I have to eff around with it even more when I export it uncompressed due to it rendering without any lag.

Update: I'm done with all the animation for the bonus features on the DVD (so in other words I'm really hoping and expecting it'll be ready for this coming weekend).

I decided to see if anything at all was done with the first submission of the Part 4 (the one that got flagged).

Well it's out of admin review but it was blammed (maybe the admins just force-blammed it since I rereleased it).

But CHECK OUT THE SCORE AT DEATH. LOL!

(It's at the top)
